The Queer Asian Pacific Islander Retreat aims to foster a safe and inclusive space for all individuals that identify as both Asian Pacific Islander and Queer. The goal of this student-initiated and student-run retreat is to engage and empower its participants while creating visibility and validation for an identity that is often marginalized, misappropriated, and ignored. This weekend long event will include various workshops, discussions, keynote speakers, and other activities that will strengthen the participant's understanding of themselves and the greater API and/or Queer communities.
The theme for QAPIAR 2013 is Breaking the Taboo. In Asian and Pacific Islander culture and society, issues of identity are often not spoken of or acknowledged. Whether it be in expression, discussion, or interaction we seek to Break this Taboo. Through solidarity and empowerment, QAPIAR strives to address the matrix of oppression the Queer Asian Pacific Islander (American) community undergoes.
We invite everyone who is interested to apply!!!
